Mercy Memorial Physician Named Doctor of the Year

Ardmore — Thomas W. McCulloh, D.O., a Mercy Memorial physician, was named “2008 Doctor of the Year” by the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association at the 108th annual convention in Oklahoma City last week. This award is given to osteopathic physicians who exemplify leadership qualities, demonstrate high moral characteristics and garner respect among colleagues and peers.

An Ardmore High School graduate, Dr. McCulloh attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, then pursued graduate studies at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. He continued his education as a member of the first graduating class of Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, earning his medical degree in 1977. After completing an internship at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan, Dr. McCulloh was in general practice for three years in Skiatook, Oklahoma. He was then selected to complete a family practice residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, where he was chief resident in the department of family medicine.

In 1983, Dr. McCulloh returned to Ardmore to practice family medicine. In the mid-1990s, he opened the Good Shepherd Clinic in Ardmore, offering free medical services to those who could not afford health care in the community. Today, the clinic includes several area physicians and providers who volunteer time and resources.

Mercy Memorial Health Center is a member of Mercy Health System of Oklahoma and the Sisters of Mercy Health System.
